Ammonia Refrigeration

Ammonia Refrigeration Systems

We engineer state-of-the-art refrigeration systems built to meet the demands of modern industry. Designed for precision, efficiency, and durability, our solutions power cold stores, processing plants, and distribution facilities across Pakistan and beyond. With advanced technology and strict quality standards, we ensure consistent temperature control, reduced energy costs, and seamless operations , enabling businesses to safeguard their products and strengthen their cold chain infrastructure.

Why Choose Ammonia Refrigeration?

cold store refrigeration system

• High Efficiency: Ammonia has outstanding thermodynamic properties, making it one of the most
energy-efficient refrigerants for large cold storage facilities.
• Environmentally Friendly: Unlike synthetic refrigerants, ammonia has zero ozone depletion
potential (ODP) and zero global warming potential (GWP).
• Cost-Effective for Large Facilities: While installation costs may be higher initially, ammonia
systems provide lower long-term operating costs, making them the most economical choice for
warehouses, food plants, and industrial applications.
• Long-Term Reliability: When properly maintained, ammonia systems are robust and deliver
decades of dependable service.

Types of Ammonia Refrigeration Systems by IzharFoster

1. Ammonia Direct Expansion (DX) Systems

How It Works:

• High Efficiency: Ammonia has outstanding thermodynamic properties, making it one of the most energy-efficient refrigerants for large cold storage facilities.

• Environmentally Friendly: Unlike synthetic refrigerants, ammonia has zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and zero global warming potential (GWP)

.• Cost-Effective for Large Facilities: While installation costs may be higher initially, ammonia systems provide lower long-term operating costs, making them the most economical choice for warehouses, food plants, and industrial applications.

• Long-Term Reliability: When properly maintained, ammonia systems are robust and deliver decades of dependable service.

2. Ammonia Pumped Circulation Systems

How It Works:

• A pump circulates liquid ammonia through the evaporators at high flow rates.

• Only a portion of the ammonia evaporates (wet return); the remainder flows back to a low-pressure receiver for separation.

• Vapor is returned to the compressor while liquid is pumped back to the evaporators.

Key Components:

• Compressor
• Condenser
• Low-Pressure Receiver (Separator)
• Recirculation Pump
• Evaporator Coils
Advantages:

• Provides uniform cooling across large spaces
• Efficient heat transfer even in very large cold stores
• Widely used in blast freezers, food processing plants, and distribution warehouse

3. Ammonia–Glycol Indirect Systems

How It Works:

• Ammonia never enters the cold rooms. Instead, it cools a secondary fluid (usually glycol) in a plate
heat exchanger.
• The chilled glycol is then pumped through pipelines to the storage areas, absorbing heat from the
rooms.
• The ammonia cycle remains confined to the central machine room, minimizing risk.

Key Components:

• Compressor
• Condenser
• Plate Heat Exchanger (Ammonia cools glycol)
• Glycol Pumps
• Glycol Distribution Lines
• Air Coolers inside cold rooms (glycol side)

Advantages:

• Enhanced Safety: Ammonia is isolated, reducing leak risk in occupied or product-handling areas.
• Flexibility: Ideal for facilities requiring multi-temperature zones.
• Versatility: Perfect for industries where product and personnel safety are critical.
